EXPLORER VANS
IMPORTANT INFO

CONVERSION VAN FACTS The following Research was completed with input from 100 Chevrolet Dealers by Stander Inc.

Half of these dealers are still actively selling conversion vans while the other half are no longer active in the conversion van business.

Chevrolet Dealer Study Two thirds of the dealers interviewed rate the present conversion van market as unhealthy. The inactive dealers rate the present market much lower than the active dealers.

The main reasons dealers felt the present market was unhealthy are as follows: 35% said "less demand" 25% said "other vehicles were stealing van business" 25% said "conversion vans are priced to high" 18% said "poor converter companies don't stand behind their products" When asked to give their assessment of the future outlook of the conversion van market, 41% of the dealers felt the future looked promising. Sixty four percent of the active dealers said the future looked promising while only 18% of the inactive dealers felt the future looked promising.

The main reason dealers felt the future looked promising is as follows: 32% said "demand has remained steady" The rnain reason dealers felt the future did not look promising is as follows: 42% said "the vehicle tends to be a one time purchase, consumer demand is low" This is in contrast to what the customer told us. Remember, that 7 out of 10 customers said they would buy another conversion.

CONCLUSIONS: Eight out of ten conversion van owners are satisfied. Seven out of ten conversion van owners will buy again. Conversion Sales should begin to increase (based on RVIA predictions). Dealer confidence is lowest of all (among owners, intenders & dealers).

We must market to our customers based on the following: Family Needs Travel Needs Improved MPG Improved quality (from Chevrolets redesigning to constant improvements being made by converters.) Pressure on this segment will continue from Mini vans but more so from full size utilities. Dealers should consider getting "more contemporary" conversion vans from their converters. These "more contemporary" conversion vans should have less wood, less lights, more leather and no stripes!
